water filter project
gantt chart
We made a gantt chart and divided responsibilities so that there would be no confusion while going through the design process.
ideas and sketches
water bottles with filters
Advantages
- Instead of having to buy bottled water from the store, you could drink clean water from your faucet using a bottle like this.
- Plastic water bottles end up in landfills and take a long time to degrade; so having these water bottles can help the environment.
- You can have these with you wherever you go
- You can be sure that water from any faucet is really filtered
- You have a limited amount of water for long hikes or journeys.

material testing
All of the materials were tested with just the material and a coffee filter. Also, each test was down with 100 ml of the dirty water, which has a turbidity level of 230 NTU.
Sand - 329.2 NTU
Coarse Sand - 301.2 NTU
Wool - 203 NTU
Dirty Moss - 155.5 NTU
Activated Charcoal - 154.9 NTU

conclusion
We had to think of ideas for the filter, then research existing solutions for water filtration, and then build and test our own water filters for this project. The only problem that we had in this project was that the materials that were previously available to us in class were used up by the time came for us to make our filter. This serves as a lesson to take all materials needed sooner so that this does not happen again. I enjoyed this project because it challenges us to solve a problem by making something just like we will have to do for our capstone projects.
